The Partit Nazzjonalista reveals how a Labour Government wasted around 6,600,000 units of clean energy; in government, they were more interested in cutting ribbons and posing than in working seriously The Labour Party has no credibility left when it comes to energy and renewable energy, and today we will show you how a Labour Government wasted around 6,600,000 units which should have been generated through solar panels. Partit Nazzjonalista candidates Mark Anthony Sammut, Rebekah Borg and Eve Borg Bonello addressed a press conference during which they revealed how, after a Labour Government spent hundreds of thousands of euros on solar panels on a number of schools in Gozo, these were abandoned to their fate. As a consequence, hundreds of panels ended up losing around 6,600,000 units of electricity which could have been generated by these panels. It appears that, between panels which were never connected to the grid after being inaugurated and panels which developed problems over time, these ended up producing only 27% of the energy they are capable of generating. This information emerged from a parliamentary question submitted by Nationalist MP Ryan Callus to Clint Camilleri regarding panels installed on 13 schools in Gozo. The Minister presented figures in reply to this question, and these figures confirm how Labour in government prioritised photo opportunities and ribbon-cutting, but failed on substance. Ironically, Robert Abela and Clint Camilleri had taken European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to the Nadur school to pose in front of the cameras and boast about the investment made in that school, specifically in renewable energy. The Nadur school generated only 18% of the energy that its solar panels are capable of generating — a loss of 82% of energy. The other schools lost between 60% and 92% of the energy they could have generated, with the Għarb and Xagħra schools managing to generate only 8% of what they are capable of generating. “This is the level of incompetence shown by a Labour Government’s leadership when it comes to renewable energy. This is the lack of credibility of a Labour Party which today has the nerve to speak about the Partit Nazzjonalista’s proposal for investment in renewable energy, which will reduce people’s bills by an average of 30%.” The Partit Nazzjonalista candidates said it is no wonder Labour panicked when it saw the PN’s energy proposals. They gave a guarantee that where a Nationalist Government invests in renewable energy, it will work properly, and people will save money. “The Partit Nazzjonalista wants to deliver serious policy on renewable energy – responsible policy that will give A Fresh Start to clean energy.” They said the Partit Nazzjonalista’s proposals show the difference from the Labour Party — with a Partit Nazzjonalista that will invest fully in renewable energy and, as a result, reduce people’s bills by 30%. Apart from leaving more money in people’s pockets, this proposal will also ensure improvements in the environment and in air quality. A Labour Government has managed to place our country last in Europe in the use of clean energy. The Government of the so-called ‘Best in Europe’ has put us at the bottom of the table. The Partit Nazzjonalista candidates asked whether this is the best our country is capable of. They said that a Nationalist Government will move Malta forward in clean energy. “The choice is before us. Either we remain with a government of PRs and posing, or we trust the Partit Nazzjonalista, which has the political will to give AFresh Start to our country.” 07.05.2025 See the PN presentation highlighting Labour’s incompetence in renewable energy here
