The Leader of the Partit Nazzjonalista Alex Borg addressed a Workers’ Day Mass Rally in Ħal Lija; on 30 May we will take the first step in the direction we want to take our country My word to you, what I am promising you, is a contract. These promises will not remain on paper. We will deliver. In his address during the Workers’ Day Mass Rally in Ħal Lija, the Leader of the Partit Nazzjonalista listed the proposals launched by the Partit Nazzjonalista in the first days of the campaign, including a network of hospitals and the National Health Park in Selmun to be delivered within the first five years of a new Nationalist Government. He said these projects will be implemented thanks to the team of candidates and health professionals who developed and believed in them. He said that because the PN truly believes in healthcare workers, it wants to give them the conditions they deserve, and within the first 100 days, a Nationalist Government will begin negotiations for better wages. “We believe that education is the key to life. That is why we will increase all student stipends by 25%, and grant a five-year tax break to Maltese healthcare professionals currently abroad who return to work in our country.” The Leader of the Partit Nazzjonalista spoke about young couples who are losing hope of starting a family and said he wants to support them. He explained that the Child Trust Fund will do exactly that. This is an investment in young people so that, as they grow, they can invest in a business, in education, or in building their future. Alex Borg said that many workers are doing their utmost but still do not find support, even when they want to work more. A Nationalist Government will reward hard work and remove tax on the first €10,000 earned from overtime or part-time work. To enable entrepreneurs and small businesses to invest without obstacles, a Nationalist Government will cut excessive bureaucracy that stifles investment and ensure a level playing field for businesses. Alex Borg spoke about today’s realities and how many workers arrive at work frustrated and stressed due to constant traffic. The Partit Nazzjonalista is committed to delivering an efficient mass transport system, and within the first 100 days, work will begin on this project so that within the first five years the first and largest line of this system is completed. The Leader of the Partit Nazzjonalista explained how, meanwhile, the Labour Party, which worsened the traffic problem, first promised us a metro that remained underground, and now Chris Bonett has promised another project which, just hours after being announced, Clyde Caruana said he would not sign off to finance. Another promise of a mass transport project that will remain underground. Alex Borg said that the Labour Government was one that found millions for whom it wanted but failed to deliver quality for the people. It had €4 million to launch Vision Malta 2050, €2 million for advice on mass transport, €300,000 to cover Ta’ Qali in gravel, €400 million for Vitals and €360 million as a guarantee to Electrogas. And you were forgotten, yet on the eve of the election they call you to ask what you need. “If you give us your trust, the doors of Castille will always be open to everyone, not only on the eve of an election.” Alex Borg said that the Partit Nazzjonalista has the energy, determination and strength of persuasion, and is determined, together with the people, to give A Fresh Start to our country. “Let us write a new chapter for our country. Yes, we are the underdogs, but with you by our side we can succeed. The moment has arrived. The country is calling you. This is our moment. Together we will give Malta A Fresh Start.” At the beginning of his speech, the Leader of the Partit Nazzjonalista greeted Maltese and Gozitan workers, describing them as the backbone of our country, and recalled how 1 May reminds us that 22 years ago this country took an important decision that opened the doors of opportunity when we became a European country thanks to the vision of Eddie Fenech Adami. He said that at the time, people did not remain passive but responded responsibly to the country’s call. That same responsibility now lies on all of us, and on 30 May we must take the first step. The decision on where we want to take our country in the coming years belongs to all of us. Before his address, the crowd in Ħal Lija was also addressed by the PN Deputy Leader Alex Perici Calascione, who began by paying tribute to Jean Paul Sofia – a young worker who lost his life due to those who lost their social conscience. He recalled how, in one of the darkest moments of the Maltese Parliament, only the Deputies of the Partit Nazzjonalista voted in favour of full justice for this young worker and his family. He said that no billboard can rewrite this story and nothing will erase what happened that day. Today, the PN reaffirms its belief in the skills and abilities of Maltese and Gozitan workers, said Alex Perici Calascione. This is a beautiful country that can be even better – a country that, whenever it was led by those with a serious vision, always reached the heights of success. It is with this serious vision that after 30 May the Partit Nazzjonalista wants to lead our country – building on what has worked and strategically fixing what is not. “With the energy, work and passion that Alex Borg brings, we will give this country the Malta we want to live in. A Fresh Start for everyone.” Trisianne Attard, a young student who also addressed the rally, spoke about the challenges young people face today. She highlighted the difficulties in using public transport – due to overcrowding, inconsistency and inadequate bus shelters. She said the solution lies in the Partit Nazzjonalista’s commitment to an efficient mass transport system that will already be operational within the first five years. She also praised the PN’s proposal for the National Health Park, which will focus on lifestyle and mental health, describing it as a game-changer that will give A Fresh Start to Maltese and Gozitans. “Everyone here is here for a reason – some because they are frustrated at how difficult it is to buy a home, others because they are losing hope of starting a family, others because they are struggling to keep up with life… but there is one reason that unites everyone present: they want A Fresh Start for our country. I truly believe that with Alex Borg as Prime Minister, our country has a bright future ahead.” The Partit Nazzjonalista’s electoral campaign for the 30 May general election continues tomorrow with a day of activities in Gozo, culminating in a political activity at 6:30pm in Għajnsielem. 01.05.2026
